Being different

Epictetus compared people who fit in to the white threads of a toga, indistinguishable. He wanted to be the purple thread, that small part which is bright, and makes all the rest appear graceful and beautiful.

“Why then do you ask me to make myself like the many?”, he asked.

“And if I do, how shell I still be purple?”, he added.

What do you use magnetic therapy for?

Many people have been asking what can magnetic therapy be used to treat?

In recent years magnetic therapy has been closely associated with the treatment of arthritis but the truth is many people are using them to treat a plethora of other ailments, from depression and anxiety to fibromyalgia with some people even making claims to them being helpful for weight loss.

Whatever you use them for we would love to hear your comments on them.

What is the difference between an anklet and a bracelet?

Nothing really, we custom size all our bracelets and anklets to your personal specifications, it’s just down to personal preference as to which you choose. Anklets and bracelets are constructed in the same way unlike a necklace which has to be specially made to sit correctly on the neck, most of our bracelets can be made to the correct size to fit on your ankle, so whether you want something sleek and discreet or a high powered anklet with the maximum amount of magnets possible we have something to suit you.

We have many options regarding anklets don’t limit yourself to the anklet range, we also have a range of extra long bracelets, so if you’re looking for high strength magnets this could be the way forward for you, you can find them here…..https://www.magnetic-products-store.com/extra-long-magnetic-bracelets.html

Some people choose to wear an anklet as their problem area could be their knee or hip and wish to have something worn close to the source of the problem, other people don’t want to have a piece of jewellery on show as they perhaps already wear something on their wrist.

You can find the answers to a wealth of questions here at the MPS website, many people find it useful to read these before purchasing a magnetic bracelet.

The (girl) power of a copper bangle

220px-BritishmuseumsnettishamgreattorcHow many of you remember The Bangles?  Be honest! You  probably don’t. Well, you might. It depends how old you were in the eighties. They were a girl band, but of the instrumental and vocal variety, as opposed to those who could sing and dance but depended on others to lay down the beat and the backing. In other words they were a gazillion times better than the band who hijacked the words “Girl Power” and passed off the expression as an original.

Of course, Girl Power didn’t start with them either. One could go back through the Tudors (Lizzie the First), to ancient Egypt (carry on Cleo) and Britain under the Romans to see early signs of it. Not that that Romans were great fans of girl power or even woman power. They were one of the most patriarchal societies in the world. Women were regarded as the property of their fathers until they married, at which point they became the property of their husbands. There are some societies like that even today, unfortunately.

bac-61-mtbBut not every woman in the ancient world accepted such subservience. Even if a woman was loyal to her husband, that didn’t mean she was going to kowtow to the invaders who defeated her husband and made him their vassal. Such was the spirit of Boudicca, who inherited the leadership of the Brythonic tribe known as the Iceni after the death of her husband Prasutagus. While he lived, she was loyal to Rome, for he was their vassal who had pledged his allegiance to them. But upon his death, he bequeathed half his Kingdom to her and their daughters – something that was anathema to those patriarchal Romans. And their response was typically vicious and quintessentially Roman. They publicly flogged her and raped her daughters.

Boudicca2

Big mistake Rome… MAJOR ERROR!!!!

Rather than quietly slink away to lick her wounds, the redoubtable Boudicca’s response was to rally the Iceni, her own people, forge an alliance with the Trinovantes, their former enemies – now united in righteous indignation – and go on the rampage. Led by Boudicca on her chariot, wearing her a golden torc around her neck, with her red hair in flaming braids, they destroyed a trio of cities that the Romans had made their own and then met the might of the Roman invaders on a battlefield somewhere in the midlands. The exact site of the final battle is unknown, but the outcome is not. Tragically for the cause of freedom, Boudicca and her forces lost. Their mistake was to engage the well-disciplined Romans in a pitched battle for which they were ill-prepared – on a site of the Roman’s choosing. But their spirit lives on… in the British character, in our history and archaeology and in our jewellery.

Our jewellery? Have you gone bananas?

Er no, I haven’t. But take a look at the Snettisham Great Torc (top left) discovered accidentally by a farmer ploughing his field in 1950. It was in perfect condition and experts who examined it found it to be quite authentic. Now take a look at the Copper Ropes Magnetic (middle right). Notice any similarity? Now take a look at the Two Tone Magnetic Bangle (bottom left). That looks rather similar too.

So here we are, once again, talking about the bangles, only this time the kind you wear rather than the kind that some of us liked to listen to. Now of course, because these are bangles, you obviously can’t wear them as torcs (unless you have a very small neck). But  they do at least look like Boudicca’s golden torc. And in that sense they enable us to connect with the past and especially with that spirit of standing up to imperialism and corrupt, self-interested government.

On a parenthetic note, if I may be permitted to digress, a few years ago I wrote a thriller called the Boudicca Parchments, a modern story with an ancient twist in which a Jewish-style marriage contract with one of Boudicca’s daughter’s names is discovered in an archaeological dig. On its cover, the book featured a picture of a golden torc (a type of rigid or semi-rigid necklace) of the kind that Boudicca was said to have worn.

But to return to my main theme, I think these two bangles are very pleasing to the eye, and in addition to their other qualities, they encapsulate that British spirit of independence and our collective rejection of tyranny.  But if you don’t like those two, there are hundreds of others to choose from.

NHS reforms – outrages !

The proposed NHS reforms are idiotic at best, cynical give-away money exercise at worse.

I suspect the truth is some in between – the perception that  any administrative entity such as the Primary Care Trusts is bad and wasteful is an ideological point of view.

Now the government want to give that function to group of doctors, manly GP’s. There have been fears that it will create free fall of free market and the disintegration of the NHS.

Well, let’s start with a fact: There is a free market already: GP’s are the epitome of free market forces: The system as it is today reserve more reward to the GP that will spend little time with patients,. Today, a typical GP spendshis / her day rushing people back to the door out of their office. Because they get paid by the head. They are already business people that work in a monopolist system, where new comers simply encourages to do the same.

And now you want to make those GP’s even more powerful – so the un-written rules that the NHS Primary Care allowed will now become the procedures?

And you want the cat to guard the milk jar? Idiotic at best. VOTE THEM OUT!

Dishonesty at the Advertising Standards Authority?

Another reason to Vote Them Out!

Have a look at this: In an interesting post in his blog, David Kessler is launching a viscous attack on Britain Advertising Authority. He lashes at them that they came with a “brazenly dishonest and mendacious ruling” after addressing a complaint regarding advertising for tourism in Israel.

The issue at hand was a photo of Jerusalem which included the Dome of the Rock – and the implication that this place and East Jerusalem was part of the state of Israel. The ruling of the Advertising Standards Authority was that “We understood, however, that the status of the occupied territory of the West Bank was the subject of much international dispute, and because we considered that the ad implied that the part of East Jerusalem featured in the image was part of the state of Israel, we concluded that the ad was likely to mislead.”

To this, David says:

…it is certainly not in dispute that the ad implied that the eastern areas of Jerusalem were part of the State of Israel.  But the ASA seems to think that it is empowered to decide whether or not this is the case.  In fact the ASA has no such powers.

The stupid part of this sorry episode is that at this time, the only practical way the travel for a holiday and to see those places is to travel to the state of Israel – and hope on a short jurney to Jerusalem. And the fact that regardless the international status of the West Bank (Israel annexed and considers East Jerusalem as part of the state of Israel) as a whole or in chunks, Israel is the landlord de facto – as well as in the eye of international law.

So there you have it: Stupid politics takes over. In our political system, where Members of parliament (Commons and Lords) are injected to every level of government offices (More than 100 Members of Parliament have jobs in the government as well as their jobs as elected representatives of certain geographic area) – both the strategic as well as executive levels – that should not have happened.

You know what’s coming your way now: Voter Them Out.

Osama dead, Obama wins?

When I asked a friend that travelled to Israel if they talk about the death of Bin-Laden over there, he replied: “yes.   step mother is sad because she thinks it will help obama win.”

This was my answer to this: “Yes, I agree it will help. But not sure it will be enough to win.

And even in the details of the issue there are problems to Mr. Obama – the where about of Mr. BL obtained indirectly after Water Boarding to a detainee at Guantanamo Bay – Both are objected by the honourable Mr. O.
In fact – that makes him looks a little like an ass. And I am sure that after the obligatory praises – his head will go on the block just because that – it will prove to many Americans that he did not have the ability to do whatever it takes to protect their country at the time he was elected – and that CHANGE – his mantra – is not really a good thing for a head of their state.”
And to the people of the great lands of America I say: Vote Him Out!
And while we are on the subject of America, I have found a great theme for using in your WordPress blog: It is the site:
